Room Assignments and Check in
We do not take reservations and all rooms are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Referrals to the house are made through a VA social worker or provider.
Once the Fisher House manager receives the consult, the guest(s) are added to the Fisher House wait list and the guest(s) will be contacted by 10 a.m. the first day of their requested stay to be informed of room availability.
Because we are almost always at capacity and operate on a first come, first serve basis it is impossible for us to tell you if a room is available until the day you arrive. We understand that this can be difficult for some in planning and we do have other programs we can use to assist you should the house be full when your day of requested stay arrives. However, we must have a consult to proceed, which is why it is so important to follow the process. If you have further questions or want to verify that a consult has been placed by the social worker or provider to whom you requested do so, please call 412-360-2030.
If the house is at full occupancy, guest requests are placed on a wait list for the house and Fisher House staff will attempt to place the guest in a nearby hotel utilizing a program called Hotels for Heroes. Hotels for Heroes is a program sponsored by the Fisher House Foundation, which uses donated hotel points to place guests at no expense to the guest. If a room becomes available during the guest’s stay at the hotel, the guest would be required to move to the house for the remainder of their stay. Hotels for Heroes assistance is only available during normal business hours.
Check-in at the Pittsburgh Fisher house is available 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The management office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on evenings, weekends and all Federal holidays. Weekend and after hours check ins must be prearranged with the Fisher House Manager during normal business hours.
