Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House

Our Mission Statement: To ease the burden of our Veterans and their families during difficult times.
“Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House” is a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House support the needs of the Pittsburgh Fisher House and guests. The Pittsburgh Fisher House is “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House raise funds through private donations to help alleviate the cost of transportation, lodging, food and other amenities so the families can concentrate on their loved one during their hospitalization. During the last year, the organization has supported the Pittsburgh Fisher House in providing care to over 575 families.
The Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House supports the guests in many ways including:

The Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House supports the guests in many ways including:
- providing transportation vouchers for guests to run errands such as trips to the pharmacy or food store
- purchasing all groceries for the house and guests
- supplying 2-3 meals per week, either delivered, catered or "grab and go"
- supplying gifts and catered meals for each Holiday
- supplying gift cards for guests to assist with groceries and supplies
- funding monthly “guest night out” to restaurants, movies, hairdresser or other activities
- updating, modernizing and rennovating Pittsburgh Fisher House common areas for comfort and functionality
- publishing the Friends Focus newsletter
- hosting special events
Volunteering for the Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House
- Capital Campaign Committee Member: Support the Board, staff and fellow members of the Campaign Committee to raise funds to build the 2nd Pittsburgh Fisher House with groundbreaking expected in 2024. We're seeking motivated and influential volunteers to serve on the Committee to help bring this exciting project to fruition! Completion of the 2nd Fisher House will increase by 160% our capacity to serve more veterans and their families traveling to the Pittsburgh area for healthcare services at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. - Event volunteers: Support our fundraisers. Registration assistance, help with set-up and clean-up are all needed to make sure the events run smoothly. Please contact Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House regarding our upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.
- Patriot Challenge is a Fisher Foundation fundraising campaign designed to make raising funds and awareness for your local Fisher House easy, fun, and meaningful. You sign up for any walking, running, cycling or swim event, anywhere in the world - then register for the Patriot Challenge.
- Please note: select the PA: VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System when asked to select your Fisher House. The registration fee of $30 covers the cost of a Patriot Challenge jersey, hat, finisher’s medal, and a commemorative bib. All registered fundraisers have a customizable online donation page where you can collect donations for the individual Fisher House (Pittsburgh) of your choice.
